Slow Computer Repair in Perth

Slow computer repair in Perth, based in Canning Vale, for desktop PCs and laptops. We find out why it is slow first, then fix that: a tune up and clean-up, a deep clean for dust and heat, malware removal, or an SSD or RAM upgrade. Fixed price before we start, and most jobs are ready the same day.

A slow computer is the most common thing people bring in, and the least specific. The same slowness can come from an old hard drive, too little memory, dust and dried thermal paste, malware running in the background, or years of programs that all start with Windows. Each has a different fix at a different price.

That is why we find the cause before selling you anything. A tune up will not help a failing drive, and a new SSD will not help a computer that is overheating. You get told what is actually slowing it down, what fixes it, and what it costs, then you decide.

Not sure what is wrong? The all-in diagnostic is a flat $120 that finds the cause and covers the repair labour. If you would rather start with a clean-up, the tune ups below are fixed prices too.

PC tune ups and clean-ups

For a computer that is basically healthy but has slowed down with use. Three levels, each including everything in the one before.

Basic PC tune up

Computers collect clutter. Trial software that came with it, programs that start themselves with Windows, junk files and out-of-date drivers all add up to a computer that takes longer to do everything.

The basic tune up clears the junk and the pre-installed bloatware, trims what starts with Windows, updates the drivers and runs a quick malware scan. It is the right starting point for a computer that is a few years old and has simply slowed down.

Common signs

  • Takes a while to start up
  • Slower than it used to be
  • Programs you never use starting with Windows
  • Full of pre-installed trial software

$79 Basic Tune UpJunk file and bloatware cleanup, startup program cleanup, driver updates and a quick malware scan.

Advanced performance boost

Everything in the basic tune up, plus new thermal paste on the processor, a full clean-up of the browsers and Windows settings, and a benchmark before and after so you can see the difference in numbers rather than take our word for it.

A good choice for a computer that is slow and also running warmer or louder than it used to.

$129 Advanced Performance BoostEverything in Basic, plus thermal paste replacement, full browser and registry optimisation and a before/after benchmark.

Pro performance overhaul

Everything in the advanced boost, plus a full internal clean, memory and SSD tuning, a written performance report, and a follow-up check three months later to make sure it has stayed fast.

This is the full service for a computer you rely on every day, such as a work machine or a family computer that everyone uses.

$189 Pro Performance OverhaulEverything in Advanced, plus a full internal clean, RAM and SSD tuning, a written performance report and a 3-month follow-up check.

Hardware that slows it down

When the parts are the bottleneck, no amount of software clean-up fixes it. These are the upgrades and repairs that make the biggest difference.

Old hard drive: SSD upgrade

Plenty of computers sold only a few years ago still came with a mechanical hard drive. It is the single most common reason a computer feels slow at everything, because every task waits on the drive first. Swapping it for an SSD is the biggest speed difference you can make to an older computer.

We supply the SSD and clone your whole system across, so it starts up just as before with all your files and programs, only much faster. If you already have the drive, the labour-only price is in the table below. Every upgrade we fit, including SSDs, memory and graphics cards, is on the computer upgrades page. Our SSD upgrade guide covers how much faster the same computer gets.

Common signs

  • Several minutes to start up
  • Drive light on constantly
  • Everything waits a few seconds before it responds
  • Clicking or whirring from inside

from $175 HDD to SSD Full MigrationDrive supplied, your entire system cloned across so nothing is lost. Ideal for older machines.

Not enough memory: RAM upgrade

Browsers, video calls and modern programs use far more memory than they did a few years ago. When there is not enough, the computer falls back on the drive, and everything slows down.

We check how much memory the computer has, how much it is using, and what it can take, then source and fit the right RAM. Some thin laptops have memory soldered to the board, and we say so rather than sell an upgrade that cannot be fitted.

Common signs

  • Slows right down with a few tabs open
  • Freezes when switching between programs
  • Fine after a restart, slow again an hour later
  • Struggles with video calls

from $130 RAM Upgrade, SuppliedSourced, installed and fully configured with XMP or EXPO enabled. DDR4 sits at the lower end of each range, DDR5 at the higher end.

Dust and overheating: deep clean

When a processor gets too hot, it slows itself down to protect itself. Dust packed into the fans and dried-out thermal paste are the usual causes, and Perth summers make it worse. The computer is fast for the first few minutes, then drops off.

A proper computer clean means taking it apart, not blowing air through the vents. We strip it down, clean the fans and heatsinks, replace the thermal paste and check the fans, so it can run at full speed again.

Common signs

  • Fans loud even on light work
  • Fast at first, then slows down after a while
  • Hot to touch around the vents
  • Shuts off under load

$89 Overheating Fix & Deep CleanFull internal clean, thermal paste replaced, fan inspection and airflow optimised.

A failing drive

A drive that is starting to fail often shows up first as slowness, long before it stops working. It keeps retrying the parts it cannot read, and everything waits. This one is worth dealing with quickly, because it is the part that holds your files.

The diagnostic confirms whether the drive is failing. If it is, we replace it and move your data across while it can still be read. Our guide to the signs a hard drive is failing explains how urgent each one is, and the data recovery page covers getting files off a drive that has already gone.

Common signs

  • Freezes for seconds at a time
  • Files that take forever to open, or will not
  • Slowness getting worse week by week
  • Error messages about the disk

$120 all-in Diagnostic & Repair, All-InOne flat fee covering the full diagnostic, all repair labour and a 30-day warranty. If we need to find the fault before we can fix it, this is the price.

Software that slows it down

A healthy computer can still be slow because of what is running on it.

Viruses and hidden malware

Some malware is built to use your computer quietly, mining crypto or sending data in the background, and the first you notice is that it has become slow. We remove every threat and set up protection so it stays clean. The virus removal page has the full detail.

Common signs

  • Suddenly slow for no clear reason
  • Pop-ups or programs you did not install
  • Fans running hard while it sits idle
  • Internet slow on this computer only

$99 Virus & Malware RemovalFull deep scan, complete threat removal, browser cleanup and antivirus setup. Most infections cleared same day.

Out-of-date drivers and startup clutter

Old drivers, especially for graphics and storage, can hold a computer back, and a long list of programs starting with Windows slows every startup. We update every driver, trim the startup list and clear the junk, for a computer that is noticeably faster on the same hardware.

$60 Driver Updates & OptimisationAll drivers updated, startup trimmed, junk cleared. Noticeably faster on the same hardware.

Years of clutter: a fresh Windows install

After enough years of updates, programs and leftovers, sometimes the fastest fix is a clean start. A fresh install of Windows 10 or 11 removes everything that has built up, and the computer behaves like it did when it was new.

Your files are backed up first and put back after, so nothing is lost. We recommend this only when a tune up will not be enough, and we tell you why. The Windows reinstall page has the full detail.

Common signs

  • Slow even after a clean-up
  • Errors and crashes as well as slowness
  • Slow since a big Windows update
  • Years of programs installed and removed

$120 Windows Reinstall & Data BackupFresh Windows 10 or 11 install with all files and data safely backed up and transferred across.

Fix it or buy a new one?

Most slow computers are worth fixing. An SSD, more memory or a proper clean costs a fraction of a new computer, and a machine that was fine a few years ago can usually be made fast again.

A new computer makes more sense when it is very old, when it cannot take an SSD or more memory, or when it is also failing in other ways. If that is where yours is, we say so honestly before any work starts. If you do buy new, we can move everything across from the old one for $65.

Desktop PCs and laptops

We speed up both. Desktops are usually the easiest to upgrade, with room for more memory and a faster drive. Laptops vary more by model, especially thin ones, so we check what yours can take before recommending anything. Gaming PCs that have started to stutter are often a heat or driver problem, and those are fixed the same way.

If it is a laptop with other faults as well, our laptop repair page covers everything else we fix.

Before you drop your computer off

  • Note down what feels slow: starting up, opening programs, the internet, or everything. It helps us find the cause faster.
  • If it still works, back up anything important first. Most speed fixes never touch your files, but a backup is always worth having.
  • Let us know the login so we can test Windows before and after. You can change it afterwards.
  • Bring the charger if it is a laptop.

No appointment is needed. Message us first and we give you a fixed price before you make the trip.

Slow computer questions

It depends on the cause. A basic tune up is $79, an SSD upgrade with the drive supplied is from $175, and a deep clean for overheating is $89. If you do not know the cause, the all-in diagnostic is $120 and covers finding it and the repair labour.

Most jobs are done the same day. Drop it off before 2pm and it is usually ready by 6pm. Upgrades that need a part ordered take longer, and we tell you how long when we quote.

If the slowness is clutter, startup programs or old drivers, yes. If the cause is an old hard drive, too little memory or overheating, a tune up alone will not fix it, and we tell you that before you pay for one.

For a computer that still has a mechanical hard drive, it is the biggest speed improvement you can make, and far cheaper than a new computer. We clone everything across, so it starts up exactly as before, only faster.

No. Tune ups, cleans and upgrades leave your files where they are, and an SSD upgrade copies everything across. If Windows has to be reinstalled, your files are backed up first and put back after.

Yes. A deep clean is $89: we take it apart, clean the fans and heatsinks, replace the thermal paste and check the fans. It fixes a lot of slowness caused by heat.

Usually, yes, if it can take an SSD or more memory. If it is too old for either, or failing in other ways, we tell you honestly and can move your files to a new one.

Yes. The same fixes apply to laptops. Some thin laptops cannot take more memory, and we check that before recommending anything.

Sudden slowness usually means something changed: malware, a failing drive, an update that went wrong, or overheating. Gradual slowness over years is more often clutter, memory or an old hard drive. We find which before recommending anything.
